In the news of this day, election stations have closed in northern Iraq. The vote could affect independence of the Kurdish (库尔德人的)area and its relations with the central government in Baghdad. Local election officials say early vote counts show that more than 78% of register voters completed ballots. Iraqi Kurds (库尔德人) have been arguing with the government in Baghdad about land and oil. President Masoud Barzani said he would, in his words, “never compromise on Kirkuk”. He renewed his defense of plan in Iraq 2005 Constitution for settling control of the oil-rich area.

Demonstrators gathered in many cities world-wide for what organizers called “a day of action” to protest supposed human rights violations in Iran. Nobel Peace prize winner Shirin Ebadi urged hundreds of demonstrators in Amsterdam to reject the results of the June election for President. Ms Ebadi calls for new elections to be observed by the United Nations. In Geneva, about 80 demonstrators protested in front of UN headquarters in Europe. Demonstrations took place in other major cities including London, Paris, Berlin and Islamabad.
